Amusing Read …….. Recommended ….
”Format for the book is somewhat
on the comic book technique with large pictures, little verbiage,
and lots of picture clues to help readers who may need the help.
Vocabulary is not restrained to primary level, but picture clues
do help children who may need a nudge to figure out the words.”
“A disclaimer on the front page sets
the tone for the work: ‘Book may contain funny, silly and
nonsensical information and may be inappropriate for bumps on a
log.’”
“With Chapter headings reading ‘Dragon
Fleas,’ ‘Bathe The Beasts,’ ‘It’s
Like Giving a Cat a Bath,’ and ‘Congratulations! It’s
One Hundred Boys and Girls!!!’ the children’s eyes brightened,
and lips curved into smiles, whenever we met for ‘reading
rug.’ The class expressed interest, consideration and total
attention for the ‘Rhyme-o-meter’ sprinkled throughout.
Language used for ‘Rhyme-o-meter’ time is just gross
enough to pique the interest of the kids. Boys snickered and poked
one another, girls feigned horror. Middle grades ARE the days of
glop and glorp. During class discussion after chapter reading, the
children indicated they liked the story line, the illustrations
and the rhyming.”
” The target audience for the Knight
Lights Vol. 2: The Biggest Bounciest Battle Ever is the 8 –
11 year old group. My class of 9 – 10 year-olds enjoyed the
book and read it for pleasure during ‘free choice reading’
times. The kids liked the sense of the writer ‘talking right
to me’ during the story. They also liked the scientific factstossed
in here and there.”
“Knight Lights Vol. 2: The Biggest Bounciest
Battle Ever is a good choice for children’s personal reading,
the school and classroom library and the home school reading curriculum.”

“The black-and-white drawings that accompany
the text are hilarious. The story line frequently moves back
and forth between past and present.”
“Many readers will enjoy this
book, particularly those that are easily amused by normal
bodily functions.”

“Pros: The book is written with
rhyme and tongue-in-cheek humor, with short sentences and
lots of pictures. The short sentences and fast-paced story
will appeal to those who “have” to read but don’t
want to . . . and improve their vocabulary without them knowing
it!”
“Kids (especially boys) will likely
enjoy the pace and adventure. Those helping struggling middle-readers
should give this series serious consideration.”
“Kids who are interested in graphic
novels, though, may find this a nice primer for format and
style.”
“Type of Reading: bedtime story,
family reading, anytime reading, read aloud book, advanced
reader.”

"A Knight Light is a miniature knight
in shining armor who patrols by the light of a sword or shield
from dark till dawn." The four brave knights are back
again, and this time the Lindenberry pets are acting very
strange. Can the knights figure out what's bothering the pets
and rid the home of some pesky little critters? It wont' be
an easy job, and they'll have to work together to get it done
right. A fun book beginning readers will enjoy. (Ages 7-10)

Written and illustrated by Ed Baker, the Knight
Lights series are chapter books for young people that blend
text and whimsically scribbled black-and-white illustration
on each page, making them as easy-to-read as comic books.
The Knight Lights themselves are miniature knights in shining
armor who patrol by the Light of a sword or shield from dark
to dawn, watching over and protecting all who sleep. Knight
Lights Volume 1: Magnabumble's Big Bumble follows the courageous,
well-intentioned, yet unfortunately mistake-prone Magnabumble
as he gets caught in another jam; his friends Ironheart, Lionpenny,
and Stilton must band together to save the night. In Knight
Lights Volume 2: The Biggest Bounciest Battle Ever things
are going bounce in the night, and the Knights work together
to find out why! Both are highly enjoyable blends of fantasy,
humor, and pure silliness, recommended especially for young
readers ages 7-10.
